Crunchyroll has announced that Fumita Yanagida’s Tomo-chan is a Girl! four-panel manga series will be getting a TV anime adaptation, which will stream on their service in January 2023. The news was made at Anime Expo 2022 and a new key visual and PV trailer have also been released.
The main voice cast is headlined by Rie Takahashi as Tomo Aizawa, Kaito Ishikawa as Junichirou Kubota, and Rina Hidaka as Misuzu Gundo. Sally Amaki (of idol group 22/7) will be providing both the English and Japanese voice for Carol Olston.
The anime production staff will consist of Hitoshi Namba as director, Noriko Hashimoto as assistant director, Megumi Shimizu as head screenwriter, Shiori Hiraiwa as character designer, and Masaru Yokoyama as music composer. Lay-duce will be handling the animation production for the series.
Yanagida also drew a celebratory illustration to commemorate news of the anime adaptation.
The original Tomo-chan is a Girl! manga series was first serialized on Yanagida’s Twi4 Twitter account in 2015. It was then serialized in Saizensen magazine from April 7, 2015 to July 14, 2019. Eight total tankoubon volumes have been released under the Seikaisha Comics label.
Seven Seas Entertainment releases the manga in English. It describes the story as:
Tomo and Jun have been best buds since they were little kids, but now that they’re in high school, Tomo wants to be more than friends…too bad Jun just sees her as ‘one of the guys.’ Tomo may be a tomboy, but she’s determined to prove to Jun that she’s a woman, too!
