#Toho Revises Its Earnings Forecast Upward Significantly Due to Demon Slayer Film's Huge Success

Japanese film production and distribution company Toho announced on January 12 that it has upwardly revised its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending February 2021 (March 2020-February 2021) due to the huge success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train. Operating revenue, which is equivalent to sales, was raised to 186 billion yen (1.79 billion USD) from the previous forecast of 165 billion yen (1.59 billion USD), and net income was raised to 14 billion yen (135 million USD) from 9 billion yen (86.9 million USD).

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train was released in Japan on October 12, 2020, and stayed at No.1 on the weekend box office ranking for the record-breaking 12 weeks. It has earned a massive 35.7 billion yen (344 million USD) from its domestic run and has become the top-grossing film of all-time in Japan.

While the film has kept its strong run, a state of emergency was re-declared for Tokyo and three prefectures in the Kanto area on January 7 due to the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic, and more prefectures are likely to be added soon. Toho says, "This time, we believe that the impact will be limited, as it is only a partial business restriction."
