The anime movie adaptation of Shinichi Ishizuka‘s jazz-themed Blue Giant manga, which is helmed by Mob Psycho 100 III chief director Yuzuru Tachikawa, made its Japanese box office debut last week, with the film taking the 8th spot on the February 17-19 weekend ranking.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- compilation movie remained as the top-placed anime film on the weekend ranking, although it is now placed second overall as a result of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s debut. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village-‘s third weekend saw it attracting 246 thousand moviegoers and earning 340 million yen (~US$2.52 million). Its total gross is 2.637 billion yen (~US$19.54 million).
The First Slam Dunk, the previous second-place holder, was ranked fourth this weekend. Its all-time ranking position is currently #37, with its total gross being 10.78 billion yen (~US$79.8 million).
Meanwhile, Suzume fell from fourth place to ninth on the weekend ranking. In terms of the all-time ranking, the Makoto Shinkai film is currently ranked 16th with a total gross of 13.75 billion yen (~US$101.89 million). Suzume needs another 50 million yen (~US$370.4 thousand ) to match the total gross of 15th-place holder Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
