Tips for keeping your skin healthy

Our skin suffers from cold, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and wind, leading to dryness, and the emergence of cracks in sensitive regions such as the lips, wrinkles, and aging symptoms. It’s extremely vital to take extra care of our skin at this time of year, especially on the regions of our bodies that are most exposed to the elements, such as the cheeks, neck, lips, hands, and décolletage. Are you ready to flaunt your health and beauty? Follow all of these helpful hints and begin taking excellent care of your skin at this lovely time of year.

Hydration

It’s critical to keep our skin hydrated at this time of year to avoid looking dry, dull, and lifeless. The wind and cold temperatures rapidly dry our skin, therefore it’s essential to moisturize your skin every day with moisturizing lotions, especially on your face and hands. Use a day cream that is appropriate for the skin type on your face. Similarly, use a balm or cocoa butter to hydrate your lips. It’s also a good idea to exfoliate them once or twice a week to minimize cracks caused by the cold.

Temperature swings should be avoided.

It is critical to avoid rapid or abrupt temperature changes; when we walk down the street, the cold falls directly on our faces, and when we enter our homes or places of business where the heating is turned up to its maximum, our skin suffers; these abrupt temperature changes, from the cold of the street to the heat of the heating, are harmful to your skin and can cause redness and dryness; therefore, it is recommended that you try to maintain a temperature no higher than 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Feeding

A balanced diet is vital for having good skin, especially in the winter. Include antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, as well as vitamins A and C, in your regular diet. Broccoli, spinach, carrots, and fruits contain these vitamins. Reduce or avoid the intake of processed foods, such as oranges and kiwis, as well as high fat and sugar content meals, such as fried dishes, among others. On the other hand, hydration is critical; water not only hydrates but also cleanses our bodies; however, we understand that drinking water can be difficult for some of us; do not worry; a good alternative can be tea without sugar, which is also water, and the fact that it is hot makes it easier to consume, especially on those days when it is extremely cold; similarly, avoid alcoholic beverages, which exacerbate facial aging.

Solar protection

We are more used to shielding ourselves from the sun during the summer, but taking care of our skin in the winter is just as vital, even if we don’t believe it at this time of year.  Ultraviolet rays also affect our skin, causing spots, redness, and premature aging; therefore, it is critical that you apply sunscreen daily at least 15 minutes before leaving your house, and that you take extra precautions if you are going somewhere where there is snow, because snow acts as a mirror, reflecting ultraviolet rays, making exposure to the sun more direct, increasing the risk to the skin.

Maintain your skin’s cleanliness

Impurities, pollution, and fat can clog our pores, preventing our skin from breathing correctly, but we can avoid this by keeping our skin clean, therefore wash our face twice a day. Remove all makeup from your face before going to bed because our skin regenerates during the night and if you have makeup on it is more difficult for it to regenerate correctly. In addition, it is important to use neutral or mild soaps for your skin, glycerin soaps are a good option, and this way you will avoid accumulating dead cells, fat, dirt, or contamination. Taking collagen with vitamin C to maintain your skin healthily is also a smart option.

Bathing in really hot water should be avoided.

Bathing in extremely hot water dehydrates your skin, causing it to lose lubrication and become dry, dull, and salty.
