#Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu congratulates Biden on win

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election victory — but saved his warmest wishes for President Trump.

Netanyahu said he looked forward to working with the new administration and strengthening the alliance between the U.S. and Israel.

“Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Joe, we’ve had a long & warm personal relationship for nearly 40 years, and I know you as a great friend of Israel,” he wrote on his Twitter account, which still had a picture of him and Trump as its banner.

“I look forward to working with both of you to further strengthen the special alliance between the U.S. and Israel,” he wrote.

Netanyahu then added: “Thank you @realDonaldTrump for the friendship you have shown the state of Israel and me personally, for recognizing Jerusalem and the Golan, for standing up to Iran, for the historic peace accords and for bringing the American-Israeli alliance to unprecedented heights.”

His message came hours after other world leaders and some Israeli ministers had extended their congratulations to the president-elect for his win in the 2020 race over Trump on Saturday.

The longtime Israeli leader enjoyed particularly close ties with Trump, but had a bitter relationship with his predecessor Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as vice president.
