#These Great TV Shows Are Leaving Netflix in July

“These Great TV Shows Are Leaving Netflix in July”

Netflix is one of the most widely used streaming services all over the world. Since their audience is so large and licensing agreements can cost a lot of money, the service must change the content that they have every month. While that means there’s great new material coming to Netflix in July and every other month, it also means that a lot of titles will be leaving, as they always do.

Many of the TV shows which leave Netflix are picked up by other streaming platforms (especially with Peacock buying back a lot of NBC titles), but sadly others are sent to the streaming graveyard. This happens on every streaming platform, but this month in particular seems to have some greats leaving Netflix specifically. Your favorite show may be leaving Netflix throughout July (most on the first of the month, unless indicated otherwise), so keep reading to see where you can (hopefully) watch it next.

7 Supermarket Sweep

This show isn’t exactly beloved by the masses, but it’s weirdly comforting and has been a topic of conversation recently. Supermarket Sweep became ridiculously popular at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, perhaps to vicariously satisfy people who were locked down and couldn’t go shopping themselves. The show has appeared in various iterations since the 60s, but reruns became so popular, that a reboot of the show during the pandemic drew big numbers on network television. The reboot has the funny SNL alum, Leslie Jones, as host and has been popular thus far.

The show follows contestants as they have to run around a supermarket and complete challenges to win money. There is no new streaming location for the show at this time which is quite upsetting for fans of the original, and even more disappointing is that the Jones-hosted reboot has been canceled. It’s hard to say what lies ahead for Supermarket Sweep because of this, but fans can stream the reboot on Hulu.

6 The Originals

A spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals was also a very popular series on the service. The show centers on a family of vampires who are commonly referred to as “The Originals” due to the fact that they are the first vampires to ever exist. The show is a spinoff of the very popular show The Vampire Diaries. In fact, the ‘pilot’ episode aired as an episode of The Vampire Diaries as a backdoor pilot. The Originals was popular in its own right and not just because of its connection to The Vampire Diaries. Sadly the show is not yet available to stream on any other platforms. Fans can rent the show on multiple different platforms, but they may have to wait for a little for it to appear on another streaming service.

5 Chicago Med

The Chicago universe of shows is quite expansive (Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, Chicago Med), but one of the more popular ones is Chicago Med. It is the third installment of the aforementioned Chicago franchise and has been very prosperous since its first airing. The show is (obviously) set in Chicago and chronicles the day-to-day chaos that may occur in a fictional emergency room. Fans enjoy this genre of show and Chicago Med is no exception to that. Fans don’t need to worry about losing out on Chicago Med right now because the show is also on Hulu. In fact, fans can watch the entire Chicago cinematic universe on Hulu and Peacock right now, or after it leaves Netflix on July 23rd.

4 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The Star Trek universe is vast, to say the least, but Star Trek: Deep Space Nine differentiates itself from the pack. Deep Space Nine is set in the 24th century and follows a space station of the same name. At a basic level, the show chronicles the day-to-day life of the inhabitants of the station. However, over time the show delved into larger plot lines including an intergalactic war. Thankfully for fans, the show is currently on Paramount+ as well, which heralds a large collection of Star Trek media from the franchise. Despite the show leaving Netflix on July 2nd, it is nice for fans to know that they won’t have to wait to continue their binge-watching.

3 Bo Burnham: What

While Inside is definitely Bo Burnham’s most popular and widely known special these days (and captured the Covid era perfectly), What is also some great earlier work from him. Burnham has been a popular comedian for many years, but the hype around his special Inside brought his work to a whole new audience. Said new audience was then given the opportunity to explore Burnham’s wide catalog of work, including What.

The television special still remains a very funny combination of music and stand-up comedy, with a couple of Burnham’s best bits (including a routine that demonstrates how the left and right sides of the brain duke it out on a daily basis). The special currently has no new location, as it was exclusively on Netflix up to this point. Hopefully, fans may be able to at least rent the special on a service in the near future.

2 Criminal Minds

Fans were crushed by the news that Criminal Minds was leaving Netflix. It is one of the most beloved shows on the platform and to see it leave is challenging for many fans. The show has been on Netflix for quite a long time and has recently experienced a renaissance of sorts, as many young fans have recently discovered the show. Criminal Minds chronicles a government agency and its many dark interactions with criminals and examines the way they think. While it is hard to see the show leave Netflix, it is already on Hulu and will most likely be on one service or another at any given time as fans are so passionate about the show. Criminal Minds leaves Netflix on June 30th, just before July.

1 30 Rock

This one hurts. 30 Rock is still a great sitcom years after its release and has been on Netflix for quite a long time. While the show is streaming on Peacock, it’s hard to see it leave a service where it has been for so many years. 30 Rock has always succeeded on Netflix, but hopefully, Peacock will be able to bring new fans to the series. It follows a group of writers and actors on a sketch show based at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. So it’s SNL, but not at all. The show has a vast and consistently hilarious cast of characters who get into some outlandish situations. While it’s sad to see the beloved show leave Netflix (though not until the end of July), it’s nice to know it has somewhere to go.
