#The Solar Opposites Do a Halloween Special (& They’re Bringing Dark Sci-Fi Magic)

“The Solar Opposites Do a Halloween Special (& They’re Bringing Dark Sci-Fi Magic)”

In news shared during the Solar Opposites panel that took place at SDCC 2022 on Friday, July 22, 2022, it was revealed that the animated science fiction series from Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan would be starring in a Halloween special to be released on Hulu later this year. The Halloween special will follow the precedent set by The Solar Opposites Holiday Special, which debuted on Hulu on November 22, 2021.

The special will be entitled A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special, and the logline for the episode has already been released, reading, “Sometimes alien life can be spooky. The Solar Opposites do a Halloween Special!” In addition to main characters Korvo (Roiland) and Terry (Thomas Middleditch), as well as their replicants Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) and Jesse (Mary Mack) and the Pupa (Sagan McMahan), the Halloween special will also feature guest star John Kassir of Tales of the Crypt fame.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Solar Opposites Holiday Special, the Solar Opposites found themselves forced to live out the entire story of the 1990s Christmas movie Jingle All the Way. But it seems like they’ll e facing some similar, but more sinister, movie-themed events in the upcoming Halloween Special. In a clip released on the official Solar Opposites Twitter account, we got a hint of what’s to come. After joining Terry and Jesse in the bath, Korvo learns that they used “dark sci-fi magic” to resurrect a corpse from the local graveyard. According to Terry, this is their “one decoration” for the holiday.

What will happen now that they have their own personal Crypt Keeper? Probably nothing good for their human neighbors, that’s for sure. Could we be looking at some kind of spooky, Stephen King-inspired Solar Opposites anthology episode? After season three’s “99 Ships” episode, that certainly doesn’t seem out of the question.

Solar Opposites Renewed for Season 4

Solar Opposites has already been renewed for a fourth season in which the show will take another unexpected turn. “When we start season four, it has become an office show,” Mike McMahan told MovieWeb. “It really is a more straight-laced office show. But don’t worry, because Terry and Korvo cannot commit to getting that right.”

According to information shared during the SDCC panel, you can expect the forthcoming fourth season to come with a third-holiday special. While the creators are coy about what holiday that might be, Valentine’s Day seems like a likely candidate… although with Korvo’s repeated jokes about Jesus Christ being an extraterrestrial over the course of the first three seasons, perhaps an Easter Special might be more appropriate.

The first three seasons of Solar Opposites and The Solar Opposites Holiday Special are available for streaming now on Hulu.
