#The Ren & Stimpy Cartoon Airs On Comedy Central

A reimagined version of the popular 90s cartoon will return to TV after nearly 25 years off the air. Original creator John Kricfalusi, who was accused of sexual misconduct in 2018, will not be affiliated with the new show. ViacomCBS says a new creative team at Nickelodeon Animation Studios will work on the project.

Comedy Central announced today that it is rebooting the cartoon The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Nina L. Diaz, chief creative officer of ViacomCBS’s Entertainment & Youth Group thanked their partners at Nick Animation as they re-develop these iconic characters with a new creative team.

Chris McCarthy, president of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group added, “Ren & Stimpy joins our repaidly expanding roster of adult animation including South Park, Beavis and Butt-Head, and Clone High.

Consequences of Sound tweeted, “Billy West, the voice of Stimpy – and of Ren (for three seasons) – is expected to return for the revival, along with several of the original writers. However, creator John Kricfalusi, who was accused of sexual misconduct in 2018, is not anticipated to be involved.

Greg Wyshynski said, “I was an enormous Ren and Stimpy fan back int he day, but there was a sharp drop off in quality after that initial blast of creativity at the start. Best case: Writers/artists inspired by the OG show come back to capture the energy that made it an instant classic.

However, not everyone is thrilled with the idea of a reboot. Iron Spike explained, “Ren & Stimpy already had its chance at a reboot. I don’t see how anyone can forget how that went. And I don’t see why it deserves a third chance.” He also added, “I genuinely see better pitches weekly on Twitter, with the added bonus that they aren’t from people who are notorious sex offenders.”

The only thing left to do now is play the waiting game as the writers, artists, and animation experts work their magic on a cult-classic we all know and love.
