#Listen to Steve Earle Cover Justin Townes Earle’s “Harlem River Blues”

Steve Earle & The Dukes have shared the first offering from their new album comprised of songs written by Earle’s son, the late Justin Townes Earle. J.T. is out January 4, which would have been Justin Townes Earle’s 39th birthday. Listen to Steve Earle & the Dukes’ cover of “Harlem River Blues” below (via New West Records).

“The record is called J.T. because Justin was never called anything else until he was nearly grown. Well, when he was little, I called him Cowboy,” Steve Earle said in a statement. “For better or worse, right or wrong, I loved Justin Townes Earle more than anything else on this earth. That being said, I made this record, like every other record I’ve ever made… for me. It was the only way I knew to say goodbye.”

All of the artist advances and royalties will go to a trust for Etta St. James Earle, the daughter of the late songwriter. Justin Townes Earle died in August at the age of 38. His last album, The Saint of Lost Causes, was released in 2019.
