Earlier this year, a new electric vehicle startup named Arrival announced it had partnered with Uber to design the ultimate ride-hailing vehicle. Now, nearly eight months later, we’re finally getting our first look at the teeny-tiny EV. This week, Arrival and Uber revealed its first prototype designed with Uber drivers in mind.

The unnamed car is a small, compact EV perfect for the growing rideshare segment. And while it looks a bit like a Fiat, the entire vehicle was designed from the ground up by Arrival, Uber, and real Uber drivers. It might look tiny, but it delivers nearly twice as much legroom as typical vehicles on the road, a giant glass hood-to-trunk panoramic sunroof, comfy seats, and much more.

According to Arrival, this car was designed to handle the wear and tear Uber drivers have come to expect daily working the streets. The company states that the average rideshare car travels upwards of 31,000 miles a year, more than most consumer vehicles. Take a look at Uber and Arrival’s new car in the walkaround video below.

While it certainly looks like a great little Rideshare vehicle, we don’t have too many others details about it. The company didn’t share technical details regarding mileage or top speeds and opted not to mention any potential release date. However, Arrival is calling it an “affordable EV,” so that’s a good sign.

That said, Arrival confirmed the vehicle will begin further production and product testing in 2022 in the European market. We did hear from Jamie Heywood, Regional General Manager for Northern and Eastern Europe at Uber, who had this to say about the launch:

“The first reveal of the Arrival Car is an exciting moment for Uber drivers, who are switching to electric vehicles at a much faster rate than the mass market. Uber drivers have been working with Arrival to provide feedback on the design of the first purpose-built, fully electric car for the ride-hailing industry. This exciting new vehicle will support our commitment for all cars on the app in London to be fully electric by 2025, helping to drive a green recovery and clean up urban transport.”

We’re expecting this vehicle to arrive long before 2025 as the company works towards having a fully electric fleet, but we’ll have to wait and see.
