“The MCU Will Introduce Alternate Versions of Thor, Kevin Feige Reveals”

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has teased appearances from different variations of Thor in the MCU. Speaking with SlashFilm, Feige referred back to the source material that spawned the MCU in the first place – comic books – stating that they are constantly turning to them for inspiration and ideas. And there are still plenty of both for Marvel Studios to utilize.

“There are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them. And that’s where all of our stories come from. And if the question is, ‘Have you told all the great horror stories from the comics and movies?’ The answer is no. There are lots of them.”

Not only do the pages of Marvel comics contain a vast array of different stories for the MCU to adapt, they also feature a wide assortment of different versions of familiar characters. Namely, Thor. Versions that Feige has now teased could make their way into live-action in the near future.

“And I’ve always said our interest in making additional stories is somewhat about continuing the character. It’s almost entirely about continuing the experience with the actor and being able to see — I think of all of our cast not as their individual characters, but as the Marvel Players, who within that character can grow and evolve and change. And if we look at the comics as our guide, there are plenty of other incarnations of Thor that we have yet to see.”

The MCU has already introduced a few different incarnations of Thor alongside Chris Hemsworth’s main version, including Throg, the frog version of the God of Thunder, who featured in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo during the events of the Disney+ series Loki. The version Marvel fans are most eager to see, though, is Beta Ray Bill, whose existence is hinted at in Thor: Ragnarok.

A member of the Korbinite race, Beta Ray Bill is transformed into a cybernetic being and acts as the champion of the Korbinites, who defeats Thor in battle and takes control of Mjölnir. The character has gone on to feature in his own solo adventures, and has been a fan favorite among Thor fans for some time, with some even theorizing that he will show up in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder Will Introduce Jane Foster as a Different Thor Incarnation

Thanks to the introduction of the multiverse, the possibilities really are endless. Aside from Beta Ray Bill and Throg, the MCU could now easily introduce any of the already established Thor variants, such as Iron Hammer, War Thor, Thunderstrike, or Thor 2099, any one of which could take over from Chris Hemsworth should he ever decide to retire from the role.

Thor: Love and Thunder will introduce one of the best-known Thor variations, with Jane Foster set to emerge as The Mighty Thor. Natalie Portman will return to the role of Jane Foster, who now mysteriously wields a reforged Mjölnir. Thor and The Mighty Thor will join forces in the MCU sequel in order to stop the villainous Gorr the God Butcher from enacting his brutal revenge on the gods.

Thor: Love and Thunder is due to be released on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
