#The long shots worth taking wager on

After a week in Bermuda, the PGA Tour returns stateside for a stop at the Houston Open in what will be the last event before The Masters.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson (15/2 at BetMGM) had to withdraw from both the CJ Cup and the Zozo Championship after testing positive for COVID-19, but he will return as the odds-on favorite in this field. Englishman Tyrrell Hatton (14/1) has a win at the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship and a tie for third in the CJ Cup within the past 30 days and is ranked in the World’s Top 10 for the first time in his career. Tony Finau (18/1) has not finished worse than 15th in seven of his last nine events. Hideki Matsuyama and Scottie Scheffler are 20/1.

Brooks Koepka (22/1) played for the first time three weeks ago at the CJ Cup after nine weeks off due to various injuries. Koepka served as a player consultant for the redesigning of the Memorial Park Golf Course, which serves as the Houston Open’s new venue.

Here are some longer shots who are worth a wager:

Sungjae Im (28/1)

Was playing like a Top 10 player in the world earlier this season and won the Honda Classic. He was in a slump out of the restart, but this looks like a spot where he can get right. If you look at some of the potential course correlations, Im has consecutive thirds at Bay Hill and top 10s at Waialae and Sedgefield. He also likes the Bermuda greens better.

Doc Redman (50/1)

Has three top 5 finishes in his last six starts. He was the 54-hole leader in Bermuda last weekend but was not able to close the deal and finished T-4th. Two of these three recent top 5s (Wyndham, Bermuda) were on Bermudagrass greens. He’s in the top 30 in all the tee-to-green statistics and although the putting statistics are subpar, Bermuda has clearly shown to be his best surface.

Corey Conners (50/1)

The last player to win the week before the Masters was Conners, who was victorious at the Valero Texas Open in April 2019.

Denny McCarthy (66/1)

Shot last Sunday’s low round of 63 to finish T-4th at the Bermuda Championship. Just four weeks earlier, he finished T-6th at the Sanderson Farms. He was also T-9th at the Wyndham. All of those tournaments, like this one, were on Bermuda grass greens. If it turns into a putting contest, he’s one of the players to beat.

James Hahn (66/1)

Is currently playing on a major medical extension from what was a torn triceps tendon. One more high finish will help him regain his full playing privileges. He finished T-9th at the Safeway, T-6th in the Dominican Republic and T-5th at the Shriners in his last three starts.

J.T. Poston (100/1)

Although there is no recent history on this particular course, Poston stands out as a potential “horse for course.” He won in 2019 at the Wyndham Championship and was the 54-hole leader a few weeks ago at the Sanderson Farms Championship (third-place finish). Poston seems to thrive at birdie-fest type of events on Bermuda greens.

Harry Higgs (110/1)

Sits right at No. 100 in the OWGR. He finished runner-up several weeks ago at the Safeway Open. While his former SMU teammate, Bryson DeChambeau, is getting all the buzz in the golf world, Higgs has gradually climbed up the rankings and is well-versed on courses in Texas.
