The Honor Student at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei), a spin-off manga of The Irregular at Magic High School light novels with Miyuki Shiba as the main character, is getting a TV anime adaptation scheduled for 2021. The announcement was made by the Mahouka Twitter page, which also shared a teaser visual and teaser video of the upcoming anime.

The anime is meant to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Mahouka series. The Mahouka series begin life as a novel series that was posted on the Shousetsuka Ni Narou website, where it was serialized from October 2008 to March 2011. It became a light novel series in March 2011 with Dengeki Bunko as the publisher.

The Honor Student at Magic High School is written by The Irregular at Magic High School‘s Tsutomu Sato and drawn by Yu Mori. It was serialized in Dengeki Daioh from October 2012 to September 2020. Yen Press, which publishes the English version of the manga, describes it as:

A century has passed since magic–true magic, the stuff of legends–has returned to the world. It is spring, the season of new beginnings, and a new class of students is about to begin their studies at the First National Magic University Affiliated High School, nickname: First High.

A manga spin-off of the immensely popular light novel series The Irregular at Magic High School, The Honor Student at Magic High School follows the events of the original series as seen through the eyes of Miyuki Shiba, Tatsuya’s sister. The life of an honor student comes with a lot of expectations…and unexpected hidden feelings?!

The Mahouka series received its first anime adaptation with 2014’s The Irregular at Magic High School, which was followed by a movie titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars in 2017. The second season of the anime series, The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc, begin airing in October 2020. Madhouse was in charge of animation production for the first season, while 8 Bit did so for the movie and the second season.
