#The Go-Go’s had wild times

In 1984, Go-Go’s drummer Gina Schock discovered she had a hole in her heart that would require open-heart surgery. Naturally, she and her “girl gang” chose to take a hard-partying vacation before she went to the operating room.

“[We] decided to have one big bash in case I didn’t make it,” Schock notes in “Made in America: All Access with the Go-Go’s” (Black Dog & Leventhal), her new photo memoir. The book was released earlier this week, a few days ahead of the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday.

“We rented a Caddy and a Jag and went to one of our favorite spots in Palm Springs,” she writes of the getaway. “Out of all the party favors we brought with us, I was only allowed pot, Valium and mushrooms. I was really high, and we were all having fun and doing goofy stuff. It was all in typical Go-Go’s fashion.”

When Schock came out of surgery, Go-Go’s lead singer Belinda Carlisle jokingly offered her a post-op bump of coke in the hospital.

“That was just so funny,” Schock, 64, told The Post. “It’s so typical of somebody in the band to say something like that at a moment in time where it’s just probably the worst thing that could ever happen. She knew that would get me laughing, and it did. And my chest hurt so bad when I laughed!”

Now, after keeping the beat for the Go-Go’s for 40-plus years, Schock and the band will have a “better late than never” induction into the rock hall alongside fellow 2021 classmates Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Carole King, Tina Turner and Todd Rundgren. The group will be performing three songs at the ceremony, which will be taped at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to air Nov. 20 on HBO.

“We sorta at one point had given up even thinking about getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because it just kept never happening,” said Schock. “And then all of a sudden when you give up, it happens. So we’re excited about it, honestly.”

The honor gives Schock the distinction of being only the second female drummer ever to be enshrined in the RRHOF. The Velvet Underground’s Moe Tucker preceded her.

“It’s pretty neat,” said Schock. “I’m following in legendary footsteps, which is very cool.”

It’s certainly fitting that the Go-Go’s would be inducted in the 40th anniversary year of their debut album, 1981’s “Beauty and the Beat.” With the hits “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed,” the record hit No. 1 in 1982.

Schock said that the Go-Go’s “had a blast” making the LP, which has gone down as an ’80s classic. “We got to go to New York and stay at a hotel for a couple months while we made [it],” she said. “We were in the studio all day, and we were out all night.

“We were in clubs that were the size of somebody’s bathroom and clubs that were as big as an arena. We were everywhere, running around having the time of our lives.”
