#The Garden of Words Art Book To Release in June in Japan

An art book for Makoto Shinkai’s The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa) movie is set to release in Japan on June 24.

The book will have over 140 backgrounds, as well as “making of” content like design documents and storyboards. There will also be interviews with Shinkai and art director Hiroshi Takiguchi.

The Garden of Words was released in 2013 and had a run time of 46 minutes. One of its main characters had a cameo in Shinkai’s 2016 hit movie Your Name.

The movie received both a manga adaptation and a novelization. There was also an earlier art book titled Makoto Shinkai – The Garden of Words: Memories of Cinema Official Art Book which released in 2013. AnimeBooks describes its contents as including “background illustrations, screen caps, captions from the movie of that particular scene, interview with Makoto Shinkai, and more.”

Netflix describes the movie as:

When a lonely teenager skips his morning classes to sit in a lovely garden, he meets a mysterious older woman who shares his feelings of alienation.
