#My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission Surpasses 1st Anime Film’s Box Office in 9 Days

Toho released the box office figures for the My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes Mission anime film today, revealing not only that the film is doing amazingly well, but has already surpassed the lifetime gross of the first film in the series Two Heroes. The audience figures were also released today, showing that a majority of filmgoers are females in their 20s.

As of August 15, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission has grossed over 1.6 billion yen (US$14.55 million) at the Japanese box office on the back of 1.28 million tickets sold. This means that World Heroes’ Mission has outgrossed Two Heroes, which had a final box office total of 1.6 billion yen ($14.10 million), and is on track this week to outgross the second film in the franchise, Heroes Rising, which currently stands at 1.79 billion yen (US$15.1 million). 

Audience surveys for the film show high stratification scores, with 97.8% of the responders saying they thought the film was “good”, with 90.6% of those saying they would recommend it to others. In terms of demographic breakdowns, the female to male ratio is 76.5% to 23.5%, with the majority of the people watching the film in their 20s, followed by their teens, and then people in their 30s.

The fifth season of the My Hero Academia TV anime series is currently airing in Japan and streaming on Crunchyroll soon after the Japanese broadcast. There’s been no information on when My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes Mission will release internationally.
