Beyond Valor

In April 1945, a fleet of American bombers flew toward Japan on a mission to bomb cities, military bases and factories. On one plane, a phosphorous bomb accidentally detonated. Staff Sgt. Henry E. “Red” Erwin took the brunt of the blast, but still managed to throw the still-burning bomb overboard before collapsing and ultimately dying. Erwin was awarded the Medal of Honor. The book, written by Erwin’s grandson, traces the fascinating mission from interviews with eyewitnesses.

The Night Swim

Rachel Krall is the host of a popular true-crime podcast. She wants answers. And she thinks Rachel is the only one who can help.

The Hierarchies

The DEA has been chasing the drug supply in the mountains but making no headway at all, until one day, when a tip sets an agent up to crack the case — if only he can enlist some help from the right people. A tale of addicts, of fathers and sons, dealers, and drug agents.

The Heat Wave

Kate Riordan (fiction, Grand Central Publishing)

Sylvie Durand has been called back to her family home in the South of France. It’s a place that evokes bad memories, and she’s hoping to sell the house quickly and be done with it. But as she wanders the village with her teenage daughter during the summer heatwave, the past rears its head.
