Agnes Chu, a 12-year veteran of Walt Disney, has been recruited to be the new president of Conde Nast Entertainment, which produces movies, television series and video content across digital and social platforms.

Chu, most recently as senior vice president of Disney’s new streaming service Disney , will report to Conde Nast CEO Roger Lynch.

She is replacing Oren Katzeff, who joined as the unit’s head in November 2018. The company said Katzeff is moving to a new undisclosed job within the company.

In addition to making a handful of movies and scripted TV series, Chu will lead the development of the newly launched brand studios for The New Yorker, Wired, GQ, Vogue and Vanity Fair.

With print becoming an ever-declining source of revenue, the Newhouse-owned publishing company is betting that the CNE division will help it transform into a diversified media company. The move has new urgency. The company is believed to have suffered multi-million dollar losses over the past several years due to the migration of print advertising to digital outlets. The company produces 4,000 videos annually and has racked up more than one billion page views, mostly on YouTube.

One challenge for Chu will be to build stability in the division regarded as key to Conde Nast’s future. The division’s founder, Dawn Ostroff, left for Spotify in the summer of 2018 and recruited Sahar Elhabshi, the division’s chief operating officer, to join her.

Chu joined Disney in 2008 and held a variety of roles, including starting the Disney-ABC television group in digital short-form development and production before running daytime programming at ABC Entertainment. She worked on the Oscar-nominated 2005 documentary “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,” based on the bestselling book 2003 book of the same name, and “The Blues,” a seven-film series on PBS.

“The premium brands of Conde Nast have always inspired me, allowing me access to new vantage points and a vision of what is possible,” Chu said. “I’m excited to work with Roger, the editors and great teams to continue building on the company’s incredible legacy.”
