#Bootlegger made blueberry wine inside sewage plant

No wonder it was forbidden fruit.

A modern-day bootlegger who was busted running an illegal winery out of a sewage plant in Alabama says he was brewing sickly-sweet blueberry vino, according to a report Thursday.

Back-alley boozemaker Allen Maurice Stiefel was tossed in jail — and canned from his city job — after cops raided the operation inside a Rainsville municipal building last week, according to the Oregonian.

“I was making blueberry wine,” Stiefel, 62, explained in a  telephone interview with the paper.

On Dec. 17, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office investigators seized approximately 200 gallons of the wine and arrested him.

Stiefel — who was charged with unlawful possession of an illegally manufactured alcoholic beverage — spent an hour in DeKalb County Jail before he was released on a $20,000 bond.

He was also suspended from his job without pay during the investigation, according to the paper.

“He lost his job. They just yanked everything out from under him, and we’re sitting here right before Christmas, hurting,” his wife, Cathie, fumed to the paper.
