Over the last year, we’ve seen several price increases for some of Tesla’s most popular vehicles, and yesterday another one arrived overnight. The last time we saw Tesla increase prices was to the base Model Y back in July, but now two of Tesla’s best-selling EVs are getting another bump. Starting today, the most affordable Tesla starts at $42,000.

During previous increases, CEO Elon Musk said they were partly due to Tesla facing supply chain issues throughout the year, like almost every other industry. As a result, we saw several price changes in early 2021, but things calmed down throughout the summer.

On the morning of October 6th, users noticed the base and performance variants of the Model 3 and Model Y saw increases to the starting price.

The Tesla Model 3 online configurator now shows the base “Standard Range Plus” went from $39,990 to $41,990. The long-range version stayed the same, while the Model 3 Performance went from $56,990 to $57,990.

And while that’s only an increase of $1k-2k total, when you combine it with the rest of the gains throughout the year, it makes these vehicles significantly more expensive. For example, at the beginning of the year, the base Model 3 cost $36,990, but now it starts at $41,990.

Additionally, we’re seeing a similar increase to the Model Y SUV. The Tesla Model Y Long Range Dual Motor costs $2,000 more today than it did 24-hours ago, and the Performance model saw a similar $1,000 increase as the Model 3 Performance.

It’s no secret that the rising cost of materials and supply chain constraints are a real issue, but Tesla could be gearing up for the new federal EV incentive plan that may pass later this year. Either way, Tesla’s most popular vehicles just became more expensive.
