Just call Team USA a second-half team.
After trailing China for much of the Tokyo Games, the U.S. pulled off a stunning comeback in the final hours of the 2021 Olympics on Sunday to edge China, 39-38, for the most gold medals.
The U.S. used victories from from women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and Californian cyclist Jennifer Valente to come out on top after entering the final day of competition down two gold medals.

The Americans finished with a tournament-high 113 total medals — 25 more than China — following 17 days in Tokyo.
The US was the only country to win 100 medals.
In 2016, the U.S. finished with 121 total medals — 46 of which were gold.
