Born in 1997, Kitamura recently played the role of Takemichi Hanagaki in 2021’s Tokyo Revengers live-action movie. He has also starred in films like I Want To Eat Your Pancreas and Kimi wa Tsukiyo ni Hikari Kagayaku. Kitamura also lent his voice to anime films like Hello World and Bokura no Nanokakan Sensou.

Yu Yu Hakusho is set to premiere in December 2023. It is produced by ROBOT COMMUNICATIONS, the production company of the live-action Alice in Borderland Netflix series.

The show is based on the Shueisha-published supernatural action manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, which ran from 1990 to 1994 and has 19 tankoubon volumes. The manga inspired an anime adaptation that ran from 1992 to 1995 and is currently available to stream on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. There have also been video game adaptations as well as a stage adaptation in 2019.

Viz Media describes the manga as:

Yusuke Urameshi was a tough teen delinquent until one selfless act changed his life…by ending it. When he died saving a little kid from a speeding car, the afterlife didn’t know what to do with him, so it gave him a second chance at life. Now, Yusuke is a ghost with a mission, performing good deeds at the beshest of Botan, the spirit guide of the dead, and Koenma, her pacifier-sucking boss from the “other side.” But what strange things await him on the borderline between life and death?
