#COVID-19 cases drop slightly in New York’s hot spots

New York’s coronavirus hot spots cooled off a little with the percentage of positive tests dropping.

The average rate of positive tests in the 20 hot spot ZIP codes was 5.2 percent Friday, down from 6.4 percent a day earlier, Gov. Cuomo’s office said Saturday.

The hotspots are in Brooklyn, Queens and in Orange and Rockland counties.

The percentage of positive tests in Borough Park dropped to 4 percent Friday from 8.2 percent Thursday. In Kew Gardens Hills, they fell to 4.1 percent from 10.1 percent.

But positive results soared in upstate Monroe hitting 27.6 percent from 17.3 percent a day earlier. The area includes the Hasidic enclave of Kiryas Joel.

The state logged 134,267 tests for the virus Friday, a record, with 1,731 positive results. Six people died.

Cuomo Friday threatened to fine municipalities including New York City if coronavirus restrictions were not enforced.

The number of positive tests citywide was 1.4 percent Friday, the same as the day before.
