They caught Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen being critical of MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, and Nebraska president Ted Carter fell victim to one on Tuesday.
Carter was caught leaking an awaited announcement of the Big Ten’s decision about a plan to start the college football season after previously announcing it was postponing fall sports on Aug. 11.
“We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight,” he told Bob Hinson, director of the National Strategic Research Institute, prior to a press conference, in a video posted by KETV Television in Omaha, Neb.
“Oh, really?” Hinson responded. “I heard that that was happening. There’s a lot of anticipation about that. Good for you. Maybe that will get off your plate.”
Carter answered: “Well, it never will, but it’s a good move in the right direction.”
When asked by KLKN television about it, Carter said: “I think that was picked up a little out of context. All I said is there’s work going on, and we remain cautiously optimistic, like everybody else, that we’ll get to discovering when it’s safe to play.”
On Sunday, the Big Ten’s presidents and chancellors met with its return to competition task force to review new medical information after the possibility of returning to play. No vote has yet to take place, however.
