The 95-year-old Jimmy and former first lady Rosalynn Carter, 93, praised Biden’s character and called him a loyal and longtime friend in a video voiceover, rather than on camera.
“Joe Biden must be our next president,” the ex-commander in chief said.
He noted Biden was one of his strongest supporters in the Senate in the late 1970s, saying he has “the experience, character, and decency to bring us together and restore America’s greatness.”
Biden is “the right person for this moment in our nation’s history,” Carter said.
“He understands that honesty and dignity are essential traits that determine not only our vision but our actions. More than ever, that’s what we need.”
The former first lady highlighted Biden’s life struggles as a young widower and single dad, as well as the loss of his son Beau, saying, “He knows caregiving is hard even on the good days.”
Right before the Carters spoke, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy and the former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline, and her 27-year-old son Jack Schlossberg endorsed Biden in a video message.
“In this election, our future is on the ballot,” Schlossberg said. “For my generation, it will define the rest of our lives.”
He then echoed his grandfather’s famous words — “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
“We can reach these new frontiers, but only with a president who asks what he can do for our country and what together we can do to build a better world,” Schlossberg said. “It’s up to us. Let’s get it done.”
