“#Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” video is a surreal and biblical experience”
Nas takes on multiple parts in his epic new visual.
Lil Nas X has shared new song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” alongside a video filled with biblical themes and allusions. The son, produced by Take a DayTrip, Omer Fedi and Roy Enzo, is Lil Nas X’s first release of 2021 and comes with a letter Lil Nas X (real name Montero Hill) wrote to his 14-year-old self.
I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be “that” type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist. You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future.
The “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” video is based on a concept imagined by Lil Nas X himself and is described in a statement as “offering his own personal story of temptation, judgement, and standing in the full power of his sexuality.” Lil Nas X takes on multiple roles in the visual, including both Adam and the snake that tempts him to sin.
“Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is Lil Nas X’s first release since 2020 festive track “HOLIDAY.” Lil Nas X’s debut album is expected later this year.
