CyHi The Prynce Crowns Himself ‘Best Rapper Alive’ After Torching L.A. Leakers Freestyle

CyHi The Prynce has long commanded respect for his pen game, which has dazzled listeners with various freestyles, songwriting credits and standout verses on Kanye West tracks during G.O.O.D. Music’s “Rosewood” run in 2010.

Now, CyHi is looking to stamp his authority on the game. Ahead of the release of his new album The Story of EGOT this summer — and a warm-up EP dropping this week — the Georgia native paid a visit to the L.A. Leakers on Wednesday (June 1) to make his case as “the best rapper alive.”

“I’m done being humble, I am the best rapper alive, I’m one of the most important writers of the 21 century,” he tweeted. “And now I’m coming for what’s mines!!! Let me know what your favorite bar was and thanks to @TheLALeakers for having me. ‘EGOT the EP’ Out this Friday, June 3.”

Marking his first appearance on the show in five years, CyHi The Prynce torched 42 Dugg’s “Maybach” and Jeezy’s “Go Crazy” instrumentals with a six-minute freestyle showcasing his impressive double entendres, wordplay, breath control and rhyme schemes.

“Shawty got a Dartmouth, I never did Yale/The relationship failed so that ship sailed/School, I would skip, hell/But I learned that silent and listen is the same word, just misspelled,” he rapped, prompting Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk to contort their faces.

Multi-platinum producer Honorable C.N.O.T.E. and fellow wordsmith Mickey Factz also shared their astonishment at CyHi’s bars on Twitter. “man don’t play with this n-gga,” C.N.O.T.E. wrote, while Factz tweeted, “Ay @CyhiOfficial leave em alone! Fly trapper like venus!”

CyHi The Prynce announced The Story of EGOT in May and ramped up excitement by heaping equally lofty praise on himself.

“The God of Rap is back,” his newspaper-style Instagram post read. “Newly launched venture EGOT Records partners with EMPIRE for the presentation of the theatre world’s most anticipated opening: ‘The Story of EGOT.’ The ghostwriter is unveiled. Music’s secret weapon turns assassin, coming for the industry.”

The album will serve as the follow-up to CyHi’s long-awaited 2017 debut album, No Dope On Sundays, which boasted appearances from Kanye West, Pusha T, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz and ScHoolboy Q.
