#Film Review: Warhunt (2022) | HNN Watch Online

SYNOPSIS:

 1945.  A US military cargo plane loses control and violently crashes behind enemy lines in the middle of the German black forest.  Immediately ruthless Major Johnson (Mickey Rourke) sends a squad of his bravest soldiers on a rescue mission to retrieve the top secret material the plane was carrying.  Led by Sergeant Brewer (Robert Knepper) and Walsh (Jackson Rathbone), the soldiers venture deep into the forest near the crash site.  They soon discover hanged Nazi soldiers and other dead bodies bearing ancient, magical symbols. Suddenly their compasses fail, their perceptions twist and straying from the group leads to profound horror as they are attacked by a powerful, supernatural force.  Fighting for the dainty and struggling to survive they must uncover the shocking truth behind the force before the Nazis and do everything they can to remove all evidence it ever existed, even at the cost of their own lives.

REVIEW:

Warhunt was directed by Mauro Borrelli and written by Mauro, Reggie Keyohara III, and Scott Svatos.

The film opens with a military cargo plane on fire and heading towards its demise. The opening of the film is beautiful, an unraveling of chaos. The cinematography is stunning, stunning visuals.

We meet a group of soldiers, and Major Johnson portrayed by Mickey Rourke who meets Brewer (Robert Knepper). Knepper always plays a great villain. We meet Walsh portrayed by Jackson Rathbone; Walsh is “the only man for the job.”

So, the group moves on to look for the wreckage of the plane. Knepper and Rathbone have those eyes, the eyes that help tell stories. The soldiers head into the woods, and find some strange stuff. They are under fire now; Knepper’s character doesn’t like Walsh at all. He doesn’t think his men need anyone else to find this plane. Walsh is going with no matter what.

The scenes in the woods are trippy, they capture an enemy soldier and he’s in shock, he’s also bothered by the woods in a fearing for his life type of way.

They encounter a lot of strangeness in the woods. A lot of dark fairytale creepiness that is lurking around. It’s the unknown, you aren’t quite sure what or who these men are up against. So, they are in the middle of the woods and they find Captain Rice (Josh Burdett).

Walsh proves why he is the man for the job. He is efficient and handles things. Walsh knows a lot and they are dealing with the supernatural. Walsh stays in contact with Major Johnson. The woods are consuming the soldiers, Rucker (Fredrik Wagner) is affected.

Sergeant Brewer (Robert Knepper) thinks he got his crew a meal after their food is affected, I’m not sure if that was a nod to The Lost Boys but those did indeed look like worms and maggots.

We also meet Hexe (Lou Stassen), and Hexe is magical, mythical, methodical. This is a fascinating character. Stria (Anna Paliga)

Brewer’s soldiers, Friar (Alex Mills), Olin (Christopher Hunter), Freeman (Ben McKeown), Korsky (Matt Mella), Taft (Elliot Wooster), Simms (Dainis Grube) are Bewer’s men.

Walsh figures a lot out. It’s scary, it makes you think. I know, I know, “it’s just a movie.” It still makes you think. The mysteries of the world, the magic of a forest. Jackson Rathbone and this cast does a great job.

The tree of life is amazing, the cave and the effects are wild, and the birds. The creature that appears when they change from birds and witches.

It would be interesting to know what happened before this and after.

Warhunt is a fun movie whether you want to escape everyday life or watch an action-adventure/ supernatural horror movie, Warhunt is worth checking out.
