#De Blasio again dodges questions on Andrew Cuomo’s resignation

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday refused to directly say whether he thought Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign amid a torrent of sexual misconduct allegations.

“I’ll say it my own way,” Hizzoner said at his daily press briefing. “I just don’t see how he can govern effectively when fewer and fewer people believe him. I think there’s more information that’s going to come out that makes it harder and harder.”

De Blasio’s comments echoed ones he made Friday about Cuomo’s growing sexual harassment and assault scandal — even after Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Cousins called on the governor to resign over the weekend.

The mayor repeatedly dodged questions on Cuomo’s potential resignation, only going as far as saying, “the situation in Albany is very sad.”

“It’s gotten to be worse by the day and fewer and fewer people believe in the governor and that’s a very sad state of affairs for our state,” he said. “But we’re going to overcome it and we’re going to move forward.”

On Sunday, Stewart-Cousins, the highest-ranking Democrat in the New York Legislature, said Cuomo “must resign” in order for the state to continue to “govern without daily distraction.”

Five women have now publicly accused Cuomo of sexually harassing behavior — after two more, Karen Hinton and Ana Liss, came forward over the weekend.
