#Fruits Basket – prelude – Gets Trailer, New Visual

The upcoming Fruits Basket – prelude – movie has received a trailer and a new visual. The trailer features various interactions between Kyoko Honda and Katsuya Honda, the parents of Fruits Basket protagonist Tohru Honda, while the visual depicts the two with a young Tohru at a beach. 

Fruits Basket – prelude –is described as a compilation movie with new footage, with Kyo Sohma narrating the events of the Fruits Basket series. The film will notably depict the story of Tohru’s parents, who are deceased by the time the main Fruits Basket story starts. Kyoko is described as an unmanageable student who barely attends school, while Katsuya is a trainee teacher at her middle school.

The movie will also have content revolving around Tohru and Kyo Sohma that take place after the events of the series.

The returning staff from the series includes Yoshihide Ibata as director, Taku Kishimoto as scriptwriter, Yuu Shindou as character designer, Youko Kouyama as art director, Mika Sugawara as color designer, Po-Lun Tsai as photography director, and Masaru Yokoyama as music composer.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Miyuki Sawashiro as Kyoko, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Katsuya, Manaka Iwami as Tohru, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuki Sohma, and Yuuma Uchida as Kyo.

The Hakusensha-published Fruits Basket manga by Natsuki Takaya began in 1998 and ended in 2006 with 23 tankoubon volumes. A sequel titled Fruits Basket Another began in 2015 and ended in 2019 with three tankoubon volumes. The original manga was first adapted into an anime series in 2001, while the Ibata-helmed reboot anime series began in 2019 and ended in 2021 with three seasons. Studio Deen produced the first series, while TMS Entertainment produced the reboot series and Fruits Basket – prelude –.
