#Léa Seydoux Will Play Lady Margot in Dune: Part Two

“Léa Seydoux Will Play Lady Margot in Dune: Part Two”

Dune, which released towards the end of last year, already featured an all-star cast of A-list actors. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista are just a few actors who appeared in the film. Their star power brought audiences to the theater for what would be one of the highest-grossing films of 2021, despite a day-and-date release on HBO Max.

Now, Dune: Part Two brings even more talent to the planet of Arrakis, with Léa Seydoux joining the cast as Lady Margot, according to reports from Deadline. Director Denis Villeneuve will begin filming the anticipated sequel this year, with several new actors joining the already established crew. Austin Butler will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, heir to the House of Harkonnen; Christopher Walken is Emperor Shaddam IV; and Florence Pugh as the Emporer’s daughter, Princess Irulan.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Dune: Part Two is written by Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts, based on the novel by Frank Herbert. Cale Boyter, Jessica Derhammer, and Mary Parent are producing, with Hans Zimmer returning to compose the score for the film. Seydoux is known for her role in Midnight in Paris and recurring roles in the James Bond movies Spectre and No Time to Die. In addition, she’s hot off David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future, where she starred as Caprice, a former trauma surgeon who removes organs from her performance partner.

Dune was successful with both critics and audiences and was financially successful despite a pandemic and day-and-date releases on HBO Max. The film grossed over $400 million worldwide, and a $41 million domestic box office debut was the largest opening for a Warner Bros.’ hybrid release. Dune was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Achievement in Visual Effects. The blockbuster left the Oscars with six statues, the most from the 94th Academy Awards.

Who is Lady Margot in the Dune Universe?

In the Dune novels, Lady Margot Fenring was the Bene Gesserit wife of the Mentat Count Hasimir Fenring. Although she superficially fell under the influence of House Corrino, Margot fully served the Sisterhood. After the drastic reduction of Bene Gesserit influence following the ascension of House Atreides, Margot and her husband dedicate themselves to serving their own ends.

In the novel, Lady Margot factors into the story early on when she leaves a critical warning to Paul’s mother about the betrayal that would await them. Unfortunately, this sequence and character would ultimately not make it into Dune, however, Margot should have a prominent role in the second installment in the franchise.

Dune: Part Two is slated to arrive in theaters on Oct. 20th, 2023.
