TCL just announced updated versions of its most popular TVs that come with Google TV instead of Roku. And while TCL isn’t leaving Roku behind, it will now offer its latest 5-series and 6-series TVs with the same software that debuted on Goole’s 2020 Chromecast.

These new Google-powered TCL televisions deliver a content-first interface built for consumers. Plus, for the first time, these TVs will have hands-free voice controls and benefit from Google Assistant search to find nearly 700,000+ movies and TV shows. Additionally, the Assistant can answer questions, manage or control smart home devices, and much more.

Better yet, TCL confirmed that these new Google TV versions would be the same price as Roku models, yet they have a few upgrades and improvements. For example, the 6-series with Google TV does 4K at 120z, instead of only 1440p like the Roku variant, making it an excellent choice for gamers with the PS5. The new Google models also have two HDMI 2.1 ports (one eARC) and two additional HDMI 2.0 ports.

TCL said that its existing 6-series and 5-series Roku TVs would remain on sale.

Keep in mind that along with the Google Assistant comes always-listening microphones used for voice commands. Thankfully, TCL says it added a switch on the back of each TV that can physically disable the microphone. However, voice controls are still available through the new Google TV remote buttons if you choose that route.

While both the 5-series and 6-series are available for pre-order today at Best Buy, the new 5-series won’t ship for a few weeks, and the 6 will follow shortly after. The more affordable 5-series comes in 50 to 75-inch variants, while the 6-series comes in 55-inch or 65-inch, for $999 or $1299.

The company did mention a 6-series model in the 75-inch form factor is coming later this year. Unfortunately, for now, the 8K models and 8-series will remain exclusively on the Roku platform in the United States.
