#NYC summer off to a hot, humid start with no relief in sight

New York is in for a sticky, steamy start to the summer — with no respite in sight anytime soon.

Temperatures for the rest of this week will hover in the high 80s, with the humidity in the first half making it feel even more stifling.

“This is not unusual. It is officially summer,” Accuweather senior meteorologist Dave Dombek told The Post on Monday. “Of course, you’re coming off really cool stretches in the spring. The humidity is the thing you’ll notice the most.”

Tuesday could peak close to 90 degrees, depending on how early the seabreeze hits the area, Dombek said. Then, expect sultry nighttime hours with a small chance of pop-up thunderstorms north and west of New York City.

“[Tuesday] night will probably be our most uncomfortable night, with a low around 74,” he added.

The humidity will still be hanging around Wednesday, which has a high of 88.

Highs will be the same on Thursday and Friday, though the stickiness will drop off.

And don’t expect to get any relief from the rain — a mixture of sun and clouds with very little chance of storms are forecasted for the entire week.

Saturday will likely be the best bet in terms of all-day sunshine but the humidity will also return, with mercury rising to nearly 90 degrees.

“At this juncture, we don’t see any return to the nice, refreshing low 70s type stuff,” Dombek warned.

But the rest of summer 2020 is shaping up to be a nice one.

“I think overall the whole package start to finish might be somewhat warmer or hotter than normal but not extreme,” Dombek said. “You’ll get some spells of heat, you’ll also get some relief at times, sort of back and forth.”
