#Penguindrum Movie Announced With Crowdfunding Campaign

Kunihiko Ikuhara’s Penguindrum (Mawaru Penguindrum in Japan) series is getting a compilation movie titled RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM. The movie was announced as the series’ 10th anniversary project.

There will also be a crowdfunding campaign with a target goal of 10 million yen (~USD 90,377), with the proceeds to be used for the costs of the movie’s production, promotion, pre-release screening, and crowdfunding rewards. However, the website states that the production will proceed even if the crowdfunding goal is not met. The campaign is limited to those residing in Japan.

RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM will be directed by Ikuhara, with manga artist Lily Hoshino handling the character draft designs. Lapin Track is in charge of the animation production.

The 26-episode Penguindrum series aired in 2011 with Brain’s Base as its animation production studio. A manga adaptation was published from 2013 to 2017.

HiDive describes the series as:

Is destiny a matter of chance or a matter of choice? All Kanba and Shouma know is that to keep their terminally ill sister Himari alive they must find the mysterious Penguindrum.
