#Mamoru Hosoda’s BELLE to Hold Its World Premiere at Cannes Film Festival on July 15

The official website for the 74th Cannes Film Festival announced on July 4 that the world premiere of Mamoru Hosoda’s new anime feature film Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime / BELLE will be held at 20:00 on July 15, one day before its theatrical release day in Japan. According to Oricon News, Hosoda himself is scheduled to join the premiere.

It is also confirmed that the film has been selected for the festival’s newly established Premiere Section, to which more than 2,000 films from all over the world were submitted this year. His previous film Mirai was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar section in 2018, but this is the first time that his film has been included in the festival’s  official selection. BELLE is the only Japanese film in the 13 films selected in the category.
