#The Way of the Lone Wolf Streams on Netflix this May

Netflix has announced that an anime adaptation of the Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf martial arts novels will begin streaming on May 23. A trailer and visual have been released.

The anime is directed by Atsushi Ikariya (Sabikui Bisco) and produced by NAZ. Some of the other staff include Yutaka Matsubara (Sabikui Bisco) and Hitomi Takechi (Sabikui Bisco) as main animators and Daisuke Mataga (Sabikui Bisco) as assistant director. Ryota Takeuchi is the voice of main character Juzo Fujimaki.

Netflix describes the show as:

Based on the novel series by Baku Yumemakura, this new anime depicts a man’s tale of conviction, sorrow, and conflict.

At the heart of the action is Juzo Fujimaki, a rival of Bunshichi Tanba, the main protagonist of the original novels. On the run from his troubled past, Juzo is forced into competing in a deadly underground fighting tournament. Skilled in the respected martial art Takemiya-ryu, Juzo must navigate a path filled with formidable foes and his personal demons — all while dealing with a bounty of three million yen on his head and a determined detective on his trail.

The first Garouden novel was released in 1985. After 13 volumes, the Futabasha-published series continued with Shin Garouden in 2006. The fifth and latest Shin Garouden volume was released in 2020.
