#Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time Goes International on Amazon Prime on August 13

In one final twist for the “final” Evangelion film, the official website for anime studio Khara announced tonight that Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time will be heading internationally on August 13 exclusively through Amazon Prime Video alongside the previous films in the series going up on the streaming service around the world. The film will be available in over 240 countries where Amazon Prime Video is available, though won’t be streaming inside the film’s home country of Japan.

Evangelion creator, chief director, and screenwriter on Evangelion 3.0+1.01, Hideaki Anno had the following to say about the release:

“I’d like to thank every Eva fan in the world for your continued support.

We were looking for the best way to offer the movie to fans overseas as early as possible in a challenging situation with movie theatres during COVID-19, and are happy to have found Prime Video as a partner to stream it globally. We highly recommend watching it on a big TV screen for the best viewing experience.”

Evangelion 3.0+1.0 finally opened in Japan after being delayed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 8, breaking franchise records on the first day and eventually becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise in Japan in less than a month, then the highest-grossing worldwide in 35 days, and finally the 9th highest-grossing anime film in Japan of all-time. It is the longest film in the franchise (not including compilations or special screenings). An updated version of the film, Evangelion 3.0+1.01, was released in Japanese theaters on June 12. It streams internationally on Amazon Prime Video on August 13.
