#Bentley’s New Plug-In Hybrid Is a Fancy Sustainable Beast – Review Geek

Bentley is now launching its Flying Spur Plug-In Hybrid lineup, starting with a limited-edition model called the Odyssean Edition. It takes a few cues from Bentley’s EXP 100 GT concept car, namely an interior design that emphasizes high-end, sustainable materials.

Limited to around 300 units, the Flying Spur PHEV Odyssean Edition features Koa veneer trim, 100% British wool tweed panels, sustainable leather on the seatbacks and headrest, and a bunch of other materials that sound expensive and not-plasticy. Bentley hopes that this design will reflect its goal to become an EV-only brand by 2030, a difficult journey that’s not unlike Homer’s Odyssey (hence the name Odyssean).

Aside from its revamped design, the Flying Spur PHEV Odyssean Edition isn’t all that different from Bentley’s basic Flying Spur. It features the same powertrain with a 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged petrol engine and a powerful 100kW electric motor, plus a top speed of 177MPH, a 4.1-second acceleration time (from 0 to 60), and an EV-only range of about 25-miles.

That 25-mile EV-only range is great for driving around town, which may explain why Bentley went for a plug-in hybrid design. Drivers with short commutes could avoid buying gas for a long time with the Flying Spur, yet still take advantage of a combustion engine’s convenience during longer journeys.

Pricing for the Flying Spur PHEV Odyssean Edition is unknown, though it’s probably outrageously expensive. You can reach out to a dealer to try and buy one of the limited-edition cars on Bentley’s website.
