#Cross-country love drama captivates Twitter, ends in heartbreak

It was like a story torn from a rom-com movie — except for the ending.

A Florida author flew across the country Friday to spill her guts to “the love of my life” – only to end up heartbroken and alone Saturday morning in a “s—-y” Oregon motel.

The romantic drama captivated Twitter over the past 24 hours as it was shared by Rebecca Renner, a contributor to National Geographic and author of the upcoming book “Gator Country.”

“I asked him if we could try again and he said no,” Renner, 31, of Orlando, told The Post Saturday morning by phone, just hours after her public rejection. “So much worse has happened in life than somebody saying no to me. My heart is a little broken, but it will mend.”

The social media drama that followed Renner across the continent began to unfold Friday evening when the former schoolteacher posted:

“Last night, a personal tragedy reminded me that life is uncertain and too goddamn short. So I booked a plane ticket, and I’m about to fly across the country to tell the love of my life how I feel.”

The post contained a photo of Renner in an airport terminal wearing a black mask covered in tropical flowers as she went to see Francois Wolmarans, the man she had dated earlier this year, their brief relationship highlighted by an impromptu road trip to the Grand Canyon.

“Wish me luck!” she added. “And don’t wait another day to tell those you love that you love them.”

Renner would not share the details of the tragedy that inspired her to take the trip.

Her post generated an instant reaction, including more than 11,500 “likes” and global comments from both the love-filled and lovelorn.

“Three months after we met, my not-yet husband flew from England to Singapore to do the same thing, except I had no idea he was coming,” tweeted Tze Chua. “He still makes my heart beat faster. Good luck, and may this be just the start of a wonderful adventure!”

Others are still looking.

“I’ve never been lucky on finding love,” posted Sage Christian Drake. “So I trust the universe will find me that person.”

Renner tweeted from the sky later on Friday, saying “One more flight to go!’

“THIS IS A ROMCOM MOMENT AND I AM SO EXCITED,” tweeted Katherine Morgan in full-throated all-caps mode.

“I have lived an entire romance novel in the past month, down to the plot structure. It’s truly wild,” responded Renner.

Only the tale didn’t end in romance, but heartbreak.

Renner, after facing Wolmarans, tweeted out a selfie early Saturday morning taken through a mirror.

“Well, this is me in my s—-y motel room after getting rejected,” she wrote. “I don’t know whether to be sad or angry, but I’ll live to love another day. Hopefully that love will be for someone who values it. Sorry to disappoint you, Twitter.”

And now her search for love begins anew:

“So now I’m stuck in Ashland, Oregon,” Renner Tweeted. “Any ideas on what to do here? (Anyone want to take me on an adventure?)”

She told The Post she was “really surprised” by the outpouring on Twitter.

“It makes me feel better that this touched so many people. That wasn’t my intention. I was just throwing something out there online. To have so many people tell me about making big leaps themselves and having failed, only to later meet the real loves of their lives, that feels really powerful to me.”

And the story may yet have a happy ending.

Renner revealed to the Post early Saturday afternoon that she and Wolmarans met for breakfast and that they “are both being forgiving of each other … we both think it’s worth it to make an effort to be kind.”
