“#’Suicide Squad’ star Sylvester Stallone tops box office 6 decades in a row”
Sylvester Stallone is still knocking out the competition.
According to Deadline, the “The Suicide Squad” star has marked a monumental milestone, landing a No. 1 box office film for six consecutive decades.
Stallone, who plays King Shark in the James Gunn-directed DC flick, has released 46 films, with nearly half of them achieving the top slot.
Other movies on his lofty list include the classic “Rocky” (from 1976), “Rambo: First Blood” (1982), “Cliffhanger” (1993), the sports action flick “Driven” (2001) and “The Expendables” (the 2010 action film he both starred in and directed).
Some of his 20 box-office-topping hits also won glittery industry accolades, with “Rocky” landing Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (for John G. Avildsen) and Best Film Editing; Stallone also was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year.
“Cliffhanger,” meanwhile, was nominated for three Oscars: Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects.
At the height of his career, Stallone also juggled two separate film franchises with “Rocky” and “Rambo,” propelling his characters’ stories to audiences over the course of several decades.
In a review of Stallone’s latest, “The Suicide Squad,” Post film critic Johnny Olekskinski said the action star nailed the voice of Nanaue “with monosyllabic perfection” and said the character “is a worthy heir” to the fan-fave Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
