#Slain Belize cop told pal he’d take identity of date ‘to my grave’

The prominent Belize cop whom socialite Jasmine Hartin has confessed to accidentally killing reportedly told a pal he was going on a date the night he was shot — and joked he would take the identity of the woman “to the grave with him.”

San Pedro Superintendent Henry Jemmott, 42, also had boasted he was staying for free at the Grand Colony Villas, a resort run by Hartin’s longtime partner, Andrew Ashcroft, son of British billionaire Lord Michael Ashcroft, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Hartin, 32, who has been charged with manslaughter by negligence and is being held without bail, reportedly only confessed to the shooting after being threatened with cocaine charges.

She said she had been giving the top cop a massage while they were drinking together on a pier when she accidentally shot him while handing him his service Glock 17 pistol, local reports said.

Jemmott’s friend, who asked not to be named, told the news outlet that the cop had informed him that he was headed to the tourist hotspot in Ambergris Caye.

“I asked him where he was staying and he said Grand Colony. I said, ‘What? You have money then?’” the friend told the Daily Mail.

‘He said, ‘I have stripes with the Ashcrofts, they are my friends.’ I said, ‘You’re with the rich people now’ and he laughed,” the friend added.

Jemmott was in a good mood and was looking forward to meeting the mystery woman, the pal told the outlet.

“He was the happiest cop you’ll ever see but he’s always like that. I said, ‘Where are you going tonight?’ and he said, ‘I have a date,’” the friend said.

“He called the girl. When I heard the voice I asked who she was. He joked, ‘That’s my secret, this one I’m taking to my grave’ — and he did take it. I’m struggling to cope with what has happened,” the person added.

The Canadian socialite was found with blood on her hands after shooting Jemmott with a 9mm bullet, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Daily Mail.

An expended shell casing was still inside his gun when it was located on a hotel pier Friday morning along with a magazine and live rounds, the news outlet reported.

The pair had been “socializing” on the pier for an hour when security heard a “loud bang” and rushed to the scene — finding the bloodied Hartin on the pier and Jemmott floating on his back 30 feet away, according to the report.

“The body of Henry Jemmott was later retrieved by the police where one apparent gunshot wound was observed at the back of the right ear,” the document reportedly says.

“The clothing of Jasmine which contained red substance as that of blood were retrieved and packaged also her hands which also contained red substance as blood were swabbed,” the complaint adds.

A post-mortem determined that Jemmott — a father of five — died from a “massive brain hemorrhage due to gunshot to the head,” the Daily Mail reported.

Hartin’s lawyers were unable to successfully appeal the decision of a local magistrate, who ruled that she was a flight risk.

“The matter has been adjourned. The public prosecution filed a short statement, just one sentence saying we object on the basis of flight risk, nothing further,” attorney Godfrey Smith said outside the courthouse on Wednesday.
