“Stranger Things Producer Has Definitive Answer to Fans’ Eddie Return Requests”
Stranger Things made a triumphant return this year with a super-sized season four that surpassed fan expectations, and delivered us back into the upside-down like never before. While the season brought with it the usual mix of humor, monsters and perilous situations for the characters, it also revealed the big bad of the series in the villainous Vecna, and ended on an ominous note for the residents of Hawkins.
As part of its epic storyline, the season introduced the Hellfire Club, a Dungeons & Dragons group led by Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson. Over the course of the season, Eddie found himself being falsely accused of causing the deaths of Vecna’s victims and was ultimately forced to take a stand with Eleven, Mike and the rest of Hawkins’ youngsters to bring down the antagonist. However, fans were soon left heartbroken when Eddie met his maker while saving Dustin from a flock of Demo-bats. Now it seems that death is death for Eddie, as Shawn Levy explained to The Hollywood Reporter:
“[Laughs] Oh boy, a lot of people – a lot of people – can’t even handle the thought of a Season 5 without some excuse for Eddie presence. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. But we hear you, world. We know. You’re obsessed with Eddie. So were we.”
Stranger Things Season 5 Will Not Be As Long As Its Predecessor
There was a long wait between Stranger Things’ third and fourth season, which was down to both the challenges of the Covid pandemic and the fact that the season was twice as long as any other season. While the fifth season is promising to be an epic conclusion to the Stranger Things story, series creators the Duffer Brothers have already set fan expectations of getting another mega-length season. They previously explained:
“We thought Season 4 was going to be eight [episodes], and they were going to be regular length. So if you had interviewed us before four, that’s what I would’ve said. I think we’re aiming for eight again. We don’t want it to be 13 hours. We’re aiming for more like 10 hours or something. I think it’s going to be longer than Season 1 because we just have so much to wrap up, but I don’t think it’s going to be as long as Season 4.”
With the Duffer Brothers having only just started work on scripting for season 5 of Stranger Things, it is going to be probably a couple of years before the show’s finale finally makes it to Netflix, by which time we could know where the planned spin-off from the series will be heading. For now, the first four seasons of Stranger Things are streaming on Netflix.
