MF DOOM was “85% done” with his contributions to a new Madvillian album, according to Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf. Stones Throw released the original Madvillain album Madvillainy in 2004 to critical acclaim, kickstarting the careers of DOOM and producer Madlib.

The comments were made on the Juan Ep is Dead podcast hosted by Pete Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds, as Okayplayer reports. “DOOM was always telling me ‘It’s 85 percent done, it’s 85 percent done,” Wolf said of a new Madvillainy project. DOOM sent over 11 songs in 2009, Wolf revealed, but asked Wolf to hold off on releasing so more tracks could be recorded.

Over time, DOOM’s verses for the Madvillainy sequel would appear in features for other rappers’ songs or in leaks. “I got a little frustrated, and I was just like, you know, ‘It’s gonna happen when it’s gonna happen,’” Wolf said. “I don’t wanna be the guy to force creativity or anything.”

The future of another Madvillain album is uncertain. “I don’t know what we’re gonna do with those tracks,” Peanut Butter Wolf said, adding that he has permission from DOOM’s manager to release them in one complete package.
