#St. John’s will open basketball without fans

St. John’s is set to tip off its men’s basketball season on Nov. 25 at Carnesecca Arena, though the Red Storm haven’t found an opponent yet for the opening game of the resurrected Lapchick Tournament.

No matter what team they end up playing, there won’t be any fans in attendance due to COVID protocols.

The school announced Thursday that it is “hopeful” improving health conditions will allow fans to come to games later in the season.

Existing season-ticket holders can either donate ticket payments to the Red White Club as a tax-deductible gift, roll over payments for the 2021-22 season or get a full reimbursement.

As for the opener, St. John’s is seeking a replacement for Manhattan, which backed out of the three-team tournament. La Salle is still on the schedule for the tournament, and is set to face the Red Storm on Nov. 26. An announcement regarding a replacement for Manhattan is expected soon.
