#Square Enix Announces October Anime For Deep Insanity Project

Game company Square Enix has announced that their Deep Insanity project has been greenlit for an anime series, titled Deep Insanity: The Lost Child. The anime is slated for October 2021, following the future game’s release in 2021. Currently, the project has an ongoing manga titled Deep Insanity: Nirvana.

The project is set in a world overrun with the mysterious “Randolph syndrome” that causes sudden comas. A massive underground realm called “Asylum” was discovered at the South Pole as the syndrome’s origin, where unusual creatures dwell alongside previously unknown natural resources. Thus, people set foot in this “Asylum” to find a cure to the mysterious syndrome, and to plunder these resources and creatures’ data.

Norimitsu Kaihō (Akudama Drive, Astra Lost in Space) and Makoto Fukami (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, Psycho-Pass) drafted the story concepts. Artist Etorouji Shiono (Übel Blatt) launched the Deep Insanity: Nirvana manga in the February 2020 issue of Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine.

Anime News Network describes the manga as:

The manga centers on Sergiu Sol, a boy with a special resistance to the disease, and Antarctica’s jack-of-all-trades Hildegard Olympiada Yamada, who decide to take on the challenge of heading to the Asylum, when all others before them have never returned.

The Deep Insanity: The Lost Child anime’s story is set between the manga and game’s stories, with Hiro Shimono voicing the protagonist Daniel Kai Shigure who ventures to the edge of the Asylum. Shin Onuma (BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense, Kokoro Connect) is directing the anime at SILVER LINK, Kento Shimoyama (Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World) as series composer, Kazuyuki Yamayoshi (Chaos;Child, The Misfit of Demon King Academy) as character designer, Mirai Kodai Gakudan (Grimms Notes) as music composer, and Fumiyuki Go (Deca-Dence, ORESUKI: Are you the only one who loves me?) as sound director. Square Enix will be collaborating with Kadokawa to present the anime.

Anime News Network describes the game as:

Set in a world where an estimated 540 million people globally have succumbed into a comatose state due to the Randolph syndrome, the game centers on Woo Inominetas (played by Yuichiro Umehara), who is the sole survivor of a massacre that took place in a medical recovery facility.
