It’s been two years since Special Interest released their sophomore project The Passion Of, the album that brought the dance-punk collective from the DIY scene of New Orleans and onto the world stage. On November 4, Special Interest will release their latest album Endure via Rought Trade. Today, you can hear its lead single “Midnight Legend” featuring Mykki Blanco.

The new track balances the bright polish of a Duran Duran hit with the post-punk atmosphere of Siouxsie & The Banshees. In a statement, the band’s frontperson Alli Logout described the track as “a love song to all the girls leaving the club at 6 AM, a love song to everybody who doesn’t have love around them. The ways we numb ourselves or participate in high-risk behavior because we all feel so isolated and alone is also very much enabled by clubs, institutions, and party ‘friends.’ This song is about listening to people who never actually get heard.”

Logout also directs the “Midnight Legend” music video, streaming below. Framed like a short film, the visuals pay tribute to the waning hours of an all-night rave. “I see the three legends portrayed in the video as a whole person,” Logout continues, “but all represent different processes of grief. You have the fucked-up outta their mind one, the slut phase one numbing themselves with bodies, and the moment when you are open to the world again and love can be let back in . They come together towards the end of the video, symbolizing coming back to yourself.”
