#Space Battle Rages in Knights of Sidonia Theatrical Anime Film Opening

A handful of Garge mecha suits tackle an onslaught of Gauna forces during a virtual reality training simulation in a scene from the upcoming Knights of Sidonia: A Star that Weaves Love theatrical anime film.

If you’re a fan of Tsutomu Nihei’s Knights of Sidonia manga and its corresponding anime adaptation, then now’s your chance to experience some thrilling science fiction action and lowkey character comedy, because the opening sequence for the upcoming Knights of Sidonia: A Star That Weaves Love (known in Japan as Sidonia no Kishi: Ai Tsumugu Hoshi) theatrical anime film is now available on Youtube.

The video (below) features about 4 minutes from the opening reel of the film, including a pitched battle in outer space against the Gauna (actually a virtual reality training simulation) and Tsumugi delivering a bento box of onigiri to Tanikaze, who is known for both his excellent piloting skills and his humongous appetite.

In Knights of Sidonia: A Star that Weaves Love, humanity has known a period of relative peace for ten years thanks to the heroic efforts of Garde pilot Nagate Tanikaze and human / Gauna hybrid Tsumugi Shiraui. But as long as the threat of the Gauna (an inscrutable spare-faring species that is inimical to all other life) remains, the residents of the generational starship Sidonia will never truly be safe, and so Nagate and Tsumugi prepare for the final battle for the fate of humankind.

Knights of Sidonia: A Star that Weaves Love is directed by Hiroyuki Seshita and Tadahiro “Tady” Yoshihara and features animation production by Polygon Pictures. The film is scheduled to receive a limited theatrical release in Japan (with precautions to limit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic) in theatres such as the Shinjuku Wald 9 venue in Tokyo beginning on May 14, 2021.
