One home was destroyed and nearly 8,000 people have been forced to evacuate after a wildfire in Southern California grew dramatically Saturday, officials said.

The blaze was first reported Friday evening in the Cherry Valley area, about 30 minutes east of San Bernardino.

By Saturday, the fire had nearly doubled in size to encompass an area of three square miles, according to a report.

New evacuation orders were being issued for San Bernardino County, and as of Saturday evening, about 7,800 people were being told to leave the area.

The wildfire, which is now roughly 4,100 acres, comes amid a heat wave that has brought temperatures as high as 105 degrees.
