Bus shelters in South Korea’s capital of Seoul are now on the front lines of the coronavirus response.

In an effort to curb the spread of the illness, authorities have installed glass-paneled booths equipped with UV disinfection lamps and doors that can take people’s temperatures, the UK’s Guardian reported.

As an added bonus, free WiFi is provided.

To enter, all passengers must stand in front of a thermal-imaging camera — and the door will open only if their temperature is below 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

Inside the high-tech shelters – which cost about $84,000 each — the air-conditioning systems have ultraviolet lamps that are meant to kill viruses at the same time as cooling the air. A dispenser also provides hand sanitizer.

Ten of the booths have been installed in a northeastern section of the city, offering both protection from the deadly bug as well as from monsoon rains and the scorching summer temperatures.

“We have installed all the available anti-coronavirus measures we can think of into this booth,” said Kim Hwang-yun, an official in charge of the Smart Shelter project, according to the Guardian.

To make sure passengers do not miss their bus, a screen displays estimated arrival times as the traffic outside is livestreamed.

“I feel really safe in here because I know others around me had their temperatures checked as well as me,” said Kim Ju-li, a 49-year-old woman who used the new bus stop for the first time.
