Another year means another collaboration between band-based Kyoto Animation anime franchise Sound! Euphonium and the Kansai-based Keihan Electric Railway company, bringing Kumiko and all her fluff back to trains across Uji City – the real-life location where the anime is set. A special visual for this year’s collab was released and can be seen above.

 

Trains across the region will be wearing Sound! Euphonium-based illustrations, including wrappings that feature the new image and headboards with the same illustrations and two just featuring the pair of Kumiko and Reina.

The above trains wrapped in Sound! Euphonium goodness will run on the Otsu Lines, which run through Kyoto and Shiga prefectures, with trains on the Otsu Lines and Keihan Main Lines also donning the headboards. Special tickets will also be sold featuring the new visual as well as the teaser visual for the next Sound! Euphonium projects.

The trains start running on August 1, with a special photography session of the Sound! Euphonium-wrapped trains happening on July 30 and July 31 at the Nishigori Depot adjacent to Omijingumae Station in Otsu.

The original Sound! Euphonium novels are published in Japan by Takarajimasha under their Takarajimasha Bunko imprint, with an English language version of the first novel available from Yen Press. The first two seasons of Sound! Euphonium is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation with Naoko Yamada chief directing the series and directing the spin-off film Liz and the Blue Bird. A third season is currently in production for 2024 with a theatrical OVA based on the “Ensemble Contest Arc” set to release in 2023. Both the series and films feature animation produced at Kyoto Animation.

 

Crunchyroll currently streams seasons 1 and 2 of Sound! Euphonium, describes the story as such:

 

Spring in the first year of high school. Kumiko, a member of the brass band in junior high school, visits the high school brass band club with classmates Hazuki and Sapphire. There, she comes across Reina, her former classmate from junior high. Hazuki and Sapphire decide to join the club, but Kumiko can’t make up her mind. She recollects her experience with Reina at a competition in junior high school.
